PeaceHealth Selects Caduceus Materials Management Information System
Austin, Texas (March 8, 2004) - Caduceus Systems, a leading provider of wireless, real-time materials management and contract compliance systems, today announced an agreement with PeaceHealth of Bellevue, Washington to license the company’s Caduceus Materials Management Information System (Caduceus MMIS) for implementation throughout PeaceHealth’s network of healthcare facilities located in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. PeaceHealth also contracted for consulting, data cleansing and implementation services from Caduceus Systems to assist in the deployment of the system.
The Caduceus MMIS software will automate the processes and workflows associated with requisitioning, procurement, receipt, movement and the use of all medical and surgical supplies within six hospitals and two laboratory facilities and a number of clinics that comprise the PeaceHealth system. Planning for the implementation of the Caduceus MMIS is underway with a phased deployment beginning later this year. The entire implementation is scheduled for completion within an 18-20 month timeframe.
"Our adoption of the Caduceus MMIS was motivated by a combination of functional capabilities and technical architecture," said Donn McMillan, CIO and Vice President of PeaceHealth. "We determined through an extensive evaluation of the marketplace that this system was the only system that would support the idealized management of the supply chain in healthcare. We are looking forward to working with Caduceus on the implementation of the system at our facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest."
The Caduceus MMIS is a comprehensive software solution developed for managing the requisitioning, procurement, receipt, movement and utilization of all supplies and products within a healthcare facility or network. The system uses wireless technology, Universal Product Number (UPN) bar coding and scanning for real-time collection of all relevant information beginning with requisitioning through charge capture at the point of use. The Caduceus MMIS improves accuracy, significantly reduces costs, eliminates redundant processes and enhances patient care and safety by reducing errors and alleviating the time demands on clinicians and caregivers associated with medical and surgical supply related processes.
"The Caduceus MMIS strategically equips PeaceHealth with capabilities required to realize significant efficiency improvements," said James Owen, System Director of Materials Management at PeaceHealth. "Automating routine functions, providing web-base procurement, deploying contemporary technologies for data capture and managing purchase contracts throughout our healthcare system are a few tools that can enable PeaceHealth to manage forward to the idealized supply chain. Over an 18-month period, the internal supply chain needs of our network were extensively compared to the capabilities inherent in the Caduceus MMIS and several alternatives. Our selection team is confident that this system and our relationship with the staff at Caduceus Systems will afford us a singular opportunity to achieve significant improvements in accuracy, efficiency and supply cost reductions, both immediate and on a long term basis."
"We are very excited about working with the staff at PeaceHealth to jointly implement a comprehensive materials management systems solution," said Ed Lane, President and CEO of Caduceus Systems. "Their continual resolve to achieve operational improvements and willingness to embrace innovation aimed at optimizing both efficiencies and the quality of patient care speaks volumes for their organization, the capabilities of the Caduceus MMIS and the merits of this relationship."
